Re: Shared Apex Loop over rocky ground

All else being equal, beverages work best over rocky low conductivity soil, which I have. I replaced my beverages with an SAL30, which performs just as well, or better than 580’ beverages, and it offers more pattern switching choices.
My QTH has just a thin layer of caliche soil over primarily limestone, with a sprinkling of granite. Verticals work very poorly here and even an earth ground for lightning is a challenge. My SAL30 is up on fenceposts to keep it above the deer traffic, and it works very well.

My property is extremely rocky. I have tried other loop receive antennas with poor success.
