APEX Loop Front End Diodes
If you are that close to transmit antennas and towers, the direction pattern of the SAL may be seriously degraded, which is a separate issue from the induced voltages when transmitting. 73 John N5CQ

Rich, I have tried it with and without https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-rfcc-1 and it makes no perceived difference in receive performance, but I just feel better about it. I also have tried it

SAL mounted higher above ground
Works great – avoids deer but not icing! Auger to install fence posts, then cut them with a chain saw to get the tops level. 73 John N5CQ

Lightning Protection for the SAL
Pete, My run is about 200’. I found a septic system installer and they have a little one man ‘ditch witch’ machine that is designed to dig shallow trenches all day. I marked the route with spray paint

I would ground the outer conductor at the antenna end and put the protector just at the entrance to the shack, hopefully with a perimeter ground that all the equipment is bonded to. Watch out for chea

SAL30 quick fix
Last minute trip cancellation means I might contribute to club score for ARRL 160. Station checks show SAL30 problem: distorted pattern and low signal strength when switched to NW/SE orientation for J

15VDC vx. 12.6VDC Power Supply
15 VDC supply recommended and works better than just using 12V. I have a 200+ foot run. See https://www.arraysolutions.com/as-sal-30-mk2 power supply available separately. 73 John N5CQ

SAL 30 no signals, intermittent: it was the DC supply voltage
Went back to the 15V supply – more clutter in the rack but the relays hold in now! I am going to check all the connections to be sure nothing is loose. BTW What other things do people have in the feed

Is a shared apex loop much better than a K9AY?
I believe the K9AY works best over an area of high ground conductivity, while the SAL30 is relatively independent of it, so that may be a factor in choosing. In my case, the SAL30 replaced 2 reversibl

Using a standard 12V Astron supply – nominally 13.6 V. The RG6 feedline is underground in conduit except for the last few feet that go up the pole to the above ground mount. Hopefully Dx and treatment
